| good but not great | 2010-08-16 | 4 / 5 |
| | Now I figured when I picked this game up I was going to get just a Metroid prime hunters with the Call of duty license.I was wrong this games got intense action great gunplay and fantastick graphics. It doesnt look as good as metroid prime but close.i found it odd though that you cant open doors or jump.but i got used to it.also the characters mouthes dont move when they talk.but i still suggest it to anyone looking for a good fps for the ds |
| fun but too short | 2010-08-14 | 4 / 5 |
| | the game is fun but too short. online is awsomee, but you must train yourself to be pro to score points. |
| 3 years later, still a great game! | 2010-08-04 | 5 / 5 |
| This is one of my most-played games of all time. I played it a lot (too much, probably) when it first came out, and I still fire it up every now and then. I bought MW2 hoping (dearly) that it would be better than COD4, but it isn't. COD4 can still hold its own against almost any first person shooter out there.
After 3 years of owning and playing this game, I can confidently say it's a 5-star product! |
| Best first person shooter of 2007, and still good today. | 2010-08-01 | 5 / 5 |
| COD 4 pretty much revolutionized both the "Call of Duty" franchise and online multiplayer gaming. The graphics were superb, and it finally broke the mode of most FPS games being either World War Two retreads or Sci-Fi. I'll break my review into two parts for the single player and multi-player:
Single player is what I enjoyed most, it's epic in scale and long enough to be satisfying. The enemy AI is reasonably balanced and the missions have considerable variety. I like how rather than play one character you instead played characters of different nationalities and armies, and yes, the bad guy does set off a nuke. I didn't find the plot as profound as some people claimed, but it was better than most movies.
Multi-player I loved and hated. I loved it for the fast pace, well balanced weapons, and the challenging maps. The perks that you could add and rearrange were useful and interesting, and all told I ran through the level ranks twice. The first time took me barely eight weeks, the second was more like six months as my interest was tapering off. I thought it was cool the ultimate weapon was an MP-44, and even today it's good to log in and play a few rounds.
I hated it because of some of the people administering servers and how they wanted to have the games played. Namely it was custom rules and demands, such as not using Martyrdom or Last Stand perks, or not using rockets. These things were part of the game, not some cheat. Don't like something because you think it makes the game too hard for you then maybe you should try something else, but OK, your server your rules.
I hope at some point developers make games so servers can truly have custom settings and if someone wants it to be knife fight only or sniper only or pistols only then people logging in are locked into that type of game play. It would save a lot of attitude and grief.
As it is I ran into too many tough guys behind a microphone who would change rules on a whim or police players fanatically, FOA (Friends of Admins) who would always mysteriously do well, and so on. The COD 4 universe is big enough that just leaving for another server was best, but it was still a pain to run into a bad server and get kicked off because the admin that evening decided he didn't like your perks while the server rules said they were okay, and so on.
However, the tendency in newer games seems to be towards a blanket uniformity of game play where the server is picked for you, and all these people who've set up comfort zones where they can always do well have been wailing and gnashing their teeth, and I just chuckle at them. |
| Great game | 2010-07-30 | 5 / 5 |
| | The actual disc is a bit scratched but that usually doesnt affect gameplay at all. The case is in great condition considering its a used game. I knew what id be getting because ive played it before with friends, but overall very balanced multiplayer, not too many overpowered weapons. Campaign is really fun. I would really recommend this game to anyone curious about it. |
