Being a lover of shawls, I really enjoyed this book. The shawl on the cover is the main reason I bought the book. The book itself is really small but I liked most of the patterns in it.

Pro: 1. Nice size to fit in a project bag. 2. The cover shawl looks interesting. 3. Use of looped I-cord edging was interesting. 4. Basic instructions include diagrams.
Con: 1. Do you really want to fall asleep with pointy needles in your hands? 2. The projects are much easier than the editors rate them. If you can knit, purl, and slip a stitch, you can do any of the projects. 3. Fugly design: a capelet that hangs like a shower curtain around the model's neck. 4. Lack of originality. The ability to repeat seed stitch, Old Shale, or a dropped stitch in a shawl triangle is NOT a design. Nor is using repeating pattern stitch like an oversized scarf. Save your money; just open a Harmony Stitch Guide or a Barbara Walker guide, cast on for 4 multiples plus a garter border, and knit until you run out of yarn. |

I checked this book out from the library (as I do with most knitting books before I buy...) and I found the patterns to be uninspiring. I flipped through this book, and aside from the cover photo, not one caught my eye. The patterns, in my opinion, are dated, both in style and yarn choices.

I truly love the inovative shawls in this book. They will be easy to take along on trips.....car, ship, etc. Some great patterns to work with.

I purchased this for a friend who weaves shawls. I was so disappointed in the content. There wasnt anything special. The cover photo was the best thing in the book, everything else was plain, dull, overdone and lacking style.
